Get DeskCat

  1. Download DeskCat.zip and double-click it to unzip.
  2. Drag DeskCat into your Applications folder.
  3. Open it. The first time, your Mac will stop it (see below).

Why does my Mac complain? DeskCat isn't signed by a paid Apple developer account, so macOS says it "can't verify" the app. It's safe to open; you only need to do this once:

  1. Try to open DeskCat, then click Done on the warning.
  2. Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
  3. Scroll down to "DeskCat was blocked…" and click Open Anyway.

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/DeskCat.app

Once it's running, click the cat in your menu bar to rename it, pick a toy, or quit.
